Ian Gillan & Tony Iommi - Who Cares - 2012

Ian Gillan e Tony Iommi pegaram todos de surpresa em 2011 ao lançar um single de caridade: Out Of My Mind, renovando a colaboração que levou a dupla a gravar o álbum Black Sabbath Born Again, em 1984. Ninguém menos que Jason Newsted (Metallica), Jon Lord, Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) e Linde Lindström (HIM) apoiou as duas lendas do rock. Não só tocando juntos para a diversão pura das coisas, mas este novo projeto os uniu por uma causa, a reconstrução e ajuda à escola de música em Gyumari, Arménia. O single foi um momento alegre e inspirado. Iommi e Gillan então decidiram fazer “Who Cares” um álbum para os seus fãs devotos.

Canções clássicas e um monte de raridades e material inédito em um CD de músicas raras fantástico. Isso é muito mais do que um álbum solo ou uma antologia de Gillan do Deep Purple, este é um item de colecionador real e deve pertencer para cada fan de Ian Gillan e Tony Iommi.

Steve Harris - British Lion - 2012

Foto: EMI Music are proud to announce the release of Iron Maiden founder Steve Harris’ debut solo/side project album. Entitled ‘British Lion’ and comprising ten songs that Steve and his collaborators have been working on for the past few years between Iron Maiden tours and releases, it is an album that will surprise and delight music fans the world over.

With a decidedly heavy rock-vibe this roaring debut paints with a full palette of sounds; brooding, melancholic, righteously indignant and exuberantly heavy. With Kevin Shirley at the mixing helm – whose credits include Iron Maiden as well as Led Zeppelin, Journey and Rush among many others – this is an album to sink your teeth into.

From the growling riffage of opening salvo This Is My God to the heavy forlorn balladry of follow-up Lost Worlds which showcases Richard Taylor’s soaring vocals, it’s clear that ‘British Lion’ is an altogether different beast from Maiden.

Karma Killer, with its dirge-like muscularity, and Us Against The World, with its massive chorus, demonstrates just how far ‘British Lion’ has flexed Steve Harris’ considerable musical muscle. Dovetailed with guitarist David Hawkins’ positively gargantuan lyrical guitar melodies, it’s a mere hors d'oeuvre ahead of the epic, riffing-feast of The Chosen Ones, with its swaggering bravado.

A World Without Heaven, at a breathtaking seven minutes and infused with progressive elements without ever teetering into self-indulgence illustrates perfectly these songsmiths’ colossal abilities to create a mood and stay there. Supercharged by Steve Harris’ inimitable style, there’s an un-cynical vibe here that’s as refreshing as it is out of place in today’s all-too-categorised music industry.

And as far as the name ‘British Lion’; “I’ve always been proud to be British,” explains Steve, “I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t be. It’s a massive part of being me. It’s not like I’m flag-waving or trying to preach, this is not a political statement at all. It’s like supporting your football team, where you come from. I just think it lends itself to some really strong imagery too, and to me it fits in with the sound.”

With Iron Maiden, Steve Harris has become one of the most recognised and successful ambassadors for British music on the world stage. Having released 15 studio albums, sold over 85 million records worldwide and played more than two thousand gigs in 58 countries in the band’s thirty-five year career, his appeal is truly global.

Steve Harris, fundador e baixista do Iron Maiden, lança o seu primeiro disco a solo dia 24 de setembro de 2012.

Aos 56 anos, o músico inglês anunciou hoje o lançamento de British Lion , conjunto de dez canções cujos nomes pode ver abaixo.

Sobre o título do disco, diz Steve Harris: "Sempre tive orgulho em ser britânico. Não vejo razão para não ter. É uma grande parte de quem sou. Não estou a defender a bandeira ou a tentar pregar nada, é como apoiarmos a nossa equipe de futebol; é o lugar de onde viemos. Penso que também sugere várias imagens fortes, e para mim isso diz bem com o som".

MIND'S EYE: DISCOGRAFIA COMPLETA

Formada na Suécia no início dos anos 90, a banda Mind’s Eye faz um rock progressivo com influencias de Yes, E.L.O. e Genesis. Em seus quase 15 anos de estrada, a banda contou com um ‘line up’ um tanto instável, pelo qual já passaram os vocalistas Johan Falhberg (Jaded Heart) e Thomas Vikström (Candlemass, Stormwind), entre outros.

Hoje a banda conta com o baterista e tecladista Daniel Flores, o baixista e guitarrista Johan Niemann e o vocalista Andreas Novak. Ótimos músicos, eles dividem seu tempo entre a banda e o trabalho como músicos de estúdio, com exceção de Johan Niemann que é integrante do Therion. Daniel Flores, baterista cotadíssimo na Suécia, também trabalha como produtor musical.

Destacamos o álbum “Walking on H20” que foi produzido por Daniel Flores que também é responsável por quase a totalidade das composições - música e letra - deste lançamento. O álbum traz 13 faixas em 1h e 15 minutos de rock progressivo suave, sinfônico e bastante calcado no hard rock. As canções falam da evolução da espécie humana - como atesta a arte da capa -, religião, fenômenos estranhos, esoterismo e imortalidade.

“Sacred Rules”, “Sahara In An Hourglass”, “The Nazca Lines” e “Mrs. Clair Voyance” são os grandes destaques do álbum. “Walking on H20” não traz nenhuma inovação ao rock progressivo, nem poderia ser considerado um candidato a clássico do estilo, mas vale a pena ouví-lo com atenção.

Finnish melodic metallers SONATA ARCTICA will release their new album entitled "Stones Grow Her Name", on May 18th via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded in several studios all over Finland, mixed at Sonic Pump Studios by Mikko Karmila and mastered at Chartmakers by Svante Forsbäck. The effort will be released as a limited-edition digipak, standard jewel case, vinyl and download.

A two-and-a-half-minute teaser for "Stones Grow Her Name" is available below.

Gunnar Sauermann, a writer for the German edition of Metal Hammer magazine, was one of the first media people to hear a rough-mix version of "Stones Grow Her Name" at this past weekend's Finnish Metal Expo in Helsinki. He comments, "SONATA ARCTICA was never more exciting and more versatile as on 'Stones Grow Her Name'. Every single song is a hit!"
